“Explain like I’m five” or ELI5, is an idea that started on Twitter (#ELI5) and spawned the Explain Like I’m Five subreddit. ELI5 takes a complex idea or concept and goes through the mental exercise of simplifying it in a way that a young child can understand.

Explain Cluster Analysis in ELI5
Imagine you have a big bag of differently shaped and colored candies, and you want to organize them into groups. AI cluster analysis is like using a super smart robot to help you sort those candies based on how they’re similar.
The robot looks at all the candies and starts by picking two. It compares them to see whether they’re similar or different by looking at their shape, color, size, and taste (yes, this robot can taste… it’s a very advanced robot). If two candies are quite similar, it puts them in the same group, and if they’re quite different, it puts them in separate groups.
As the robot goes along, it starts to see which candies are more like each other. It adds candies to groups (or “clusters”) and creates new groups when it makes sense. Eventually, you end up with several groups of candies that are similar in some key ways.
“In some key ways” is important here. The candies in a cluster aren’t the same, but they have enough in common that it makes sense for them to be together in a group.
AI cluster analysis can do the same thing but with data instead of candies. It finds patterns and groups similar things together to make sense of lots of information.
